Scope
The 4th IEEE PETS (PETS-ICVS) continues the theme of the highly successful PETS2000, PETS2001 and PETS2002 workshops on Performance Evaluation of Tracking and Surveillance. The workshop series is unique in that all participants are testing algorithms on the same datasets.

For PETS-ICVS, the theme is gesture and action recognition.  More specifically, the annotation of a "smart meeting".

The datasets will be made available to participants of the workshop session. The aims of the workshop are several-fold:

  • to bring together researchers interested in the area of face and gesture recognition
  • to apply different algorithms to the same dataset(s)
  • to evaluate the differences between different models and algorithms
  • to discuss which criteria should be used for objective evaluation
  • to discuss how to document the performance (including accuracy) of visual surveillance algorithms
  • to discuss the development of a methodology for testing algorithms
  • to discuss the ongoing development of a testbed and guidelines for performing empirical   comparative tests.
Who should attend?  Anyone interested in gesture and action recognition/people tracking and/or performance evaluation/characterisation of vision algorithms.

  Programme
The provisional set of papers (with associated abstracts) will be available on April 30 2002 here

The full advance programme will be available after May 10 2002 here

For an idea of the style of the proceedings, you may like to consult the electronic proceedings for PETS'2000 located here, and for PETS'2001 located here.

  Registration
To register for the workshop please visit the main ICVS site.  Note that it is not necessary to register for the main ICVS conference in order to attend the associated PETS workshop.  The registration cost includes printed workshop proceedings and two DVDs with the PETS-ICVS datasets.
  Datasets
PETS-ICVS is considering a new, dedicated dataset on a "smart meeting", available during here now.

If you would like the datasets to be sent to you (DVD format) please complete the form below.

Your name:
Your e-mail address:
Address:

The results of processing the datasets should be submitted in XML format.  The details (available soon) will be given here

  Mailing List
Details to be added soon.

  Instructions for Authors
Dual submission policy. Papers will be considered that have also been submitted to the main ICVS conference. The same methods/algorithms/systems may be reported. However, your paper MUST report results on the PETS-ICVS dataset. Additionally, please indicate that:
  1. You are pursuing dual submission.
  2. That you give permission to the workshop organisers to obtain a copy of the ICVS reviews.
Please read the instructions available under the Datasets link above. Papers will only be accepted which report results based on the PETS-ICVS datasets.

The final paper format is IEEE two-column. The author kit which contains detailed instructions about the preparation of the paper is available at ftp://ftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/. The maximum page length of the final paper is 8 pages.

All printed material, including illustrations, must be kept within a print area of 6-7/8 inches (17.5 cm) wide by 8-7/8 inches (22.5 cm) high. A detailed description of the format is given in the IEEE Author Guidelines. There is a simple LaTex template for this format that may assist you in meeting this format. Or see the MS word template. The submitted file should be in Postscript or PDF format.

Please submit your paper as an email attachment to petsicvs@visualsurveillance.org
The paper should be named by concatenating the names of the authors' last names followed by a single digit in the case of multiple submissions by the same authors. Please see the online submission form link below for more details.

Please also complete the online submission form located here.  You may also like to consider submitting your paper on CDROM along with supporting files (movies, images etc).

Do not identify authors in the submitted paper.  All reviewing will be double blind, so the paper must not include any information which allows the authors to be identified.  The names of the authors, however, should be entered along with other details in the online submission form.  Please quote your paper reference number when you submit your paper electronically.

For guidance, you may like to consult the electronic proceedings for PETS'2000 located here the electronic proceedings for PETS'2001 are located here or the proccedings for PETS'2002 located here.

Journal

A selection of revised papers from the PETS-ICVS workshop will be considered for publication in a special issue of a leading vision journal.  Specific instructions will be sent to authors after the PETS-ICVS workshop.
