Breakfast News Innovations

The Model-Based Visual Surveillance System developed jointly by the Universities of Reading and Leeds was featured in the Innovations Section of the BBC 1 Breakfast News today (23rd April 1998).

The Model-Based Visual Surveillance project is funded by EPSRC under the Integrated Machine Vision Programme

A simple of example of Model-Based Visual Surveillance shows a car entering a car park being tracked until it parks and the driver being tracked as he walks away from the car.

Simple Example

The results of tracking are on the ground not on the image so we can produce a VRML world of the example. The VRML model requires a browser that supports version 2.0 with prototypes such as the CosmoPlayer from Silicon Graphics

A more complex example shows the results of tracking multiple vehicles and people

A more complex example

This sequence can also be browsed as a VRML world. Complex World

The image below shows the outlines used by the people tracker developed at Leeds
